ABOUT US
WHAT WE DO
Based in South Carolina, we focus on saving dogs at risk of euthanasia in overcrowded shelters across the state. These dogs often have only days, or even hours, left. We partner with local shelters to identify vulnerable dogs, “tag” them for rescue, and create a safe pathway forward.
Journey Home Rescue Alliance bridges the gap between rural, under-resourced shelters and rescues by providing transportation, networking, temporary foster care, and medical support. Our volunteer-run organization saves an average of 30 dogs per week, and every dollar goes directly toward their care.
Every dog we rescue receives comprehensive veterinary care. From vaccinations and spay/neuter services to treatment for illness or injuries, we ensure they’re healthy and ready for transport or local adoption. In the past year alone, we’ve saved puppies and seniors, paralyzed and hearing-impaired dogs, multiple dogs with broken legs, more than 15 battling parvo, and over 55 heartworm-positive dogs.
Our volunteers drive countless hours to pull dogs when shelters can’t hold them, provide short-term foster homes until transport, and step up when no one else can. As a 501(c)(3), we rely entirely on donations and the dedication of our volunteers, transporters, and community that makes this lifesaving work possible.
OUR STORY

After 18 years in the sports and entertainment industry, our founder, Danielle Zuck, realized she felt more fulfilled cleaning kennels at her local shelter than producing global events. When she transitioned into her first nonprofit role in animal welfare, she saw the heartbreaking reality inside many South Carolina shelters. Dedicated staff working with limited resources, constant overcrowding, and dogs euthanized simply because there was nowhere for them to go.
Danielle knew something more had to be done. With the support of her husband, she began volunteering, transporting dogs out of shelters, and fostering them to give each one a real chance at rescue. What started as helping a few dogs quickly grew into a lifesaving mission.
Journey Home Rescue Alliance was created to be the bridge these shelters desperately need. The boots on the ground that step in when a dog is out of time. First, we pull dogs from overcrowded and under-resourced shelters and provide full medical care and supplies. Then, we place them in temporary foster homes and coordinate transport to rescue partners across the country. We save dogs of all breeds, ages, and conditions, acting fast when no one else can.
Today, with partners in over 20 states, our volunteer-driven alliance moves more dogs to safety weekly than traditional rescue pipelines. In 2024 alone, we helped 767 dogs find their path to rescue. By early 2025, that number had already grown to over 1,310 lives saved.
Our story began with one person choosing to do more. It continues because so many dogs still need a chance, and we refuse to look away.
"Every time we pull a puppy to a senior dog from facing another fate, we’re not just saving a life. We’re rewriting their journey with hope, love, and second chances. Our little engine that could is there for them, finding a way when the rest of the world has forgotten them."

POWERED BY VOLUNTEERS
Meet some of the passionate people who make every journey home possible. They give their time, hearts, and homes. Without them, none of this would be possible.
A special thank you to Lacey and Nick of Licked Pet Photography, who generously donate their time and incredible talent to photograph the dogs we rescue. Their portraits help our survivors shine, tell their stories, and find the families they deserve. We are so grateful for the heart they put into every image.
